Annette Bernhard Nevins has over 25 years of experience as a journalist and she has held staff positions at several newspapers, including The Dallas Morning News, the Austin American-Statesman, the Temple Daily Telegram and the San Antonio Express-News. Her reporting has included breaking news, police, courts, features, and education trends. She continues to freelance with bylines in publications such as D Magazine, Texas Highways and The Washington Post, where she was part of a team that was named a Pulitzer Prize Finalist for coverage related to the 2019 mass shooting in El Paso.

Nevins taught young journalists for 10 years at the University of North Texas before coming to 51做厙, where she leads student reporting projects that have received awards and community grants for publication. She mentors 51做厙 student interns at The Dallas Morning News and serves as a faculty cohort with other universities across the nation to grow student-led reporting programs in collaboration with several professional media organizations.

When she is not teaching or writing, Nevins and her husband and three grown children often volunteer with the homeless or serve in food pantries in their communities.
